The Regional State Archives has initiated the digitising of a selection from the archives of the Norwegian oil and gas industry.
Before the establishment of the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD), the government of the Norwegian continental shelf was managed by the Mining Office within the Ministry of Industry. A continental shelf committee appointed by the Crown Prince res. 11/08/1963 assisted the Ministry of Industry in the preparation of laws and regulations. By Royal Decree, 04/09/1965, the State Oil Council was created. The Oil Council assisted the Ministry of Industry as an advisory body regarding the exploration for and exploitation of submarine petroleum deposits on the shelf. In the first licensing round the Oil Council was the licensing authority. In 1966 a separate oil office was created within the Ministry of Industry. The records from these bodies are presented here. With the establishment of the NPD in 1972, this archival material was transferred from the Ministry of Industry because the NPD needed it in order to perform its tasks. The records were at one point organized according the NPD's filing index. The material was later delivered by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to the State Archive in Stavanger.
Series Da L1 contains the filing index itself (page 1-44). The rest of the Da series contains the documents which are arranged according to the filing plan.
