The archival holdings of the Regional State Archives in Kongsberg fill some 13,000 shelf meters [42,650 linear feet] of storage space. The oldest archival items date back to the late 1500s. Among these are the country's oldest parish register. The most recent archival material here is from the 2000s. The Regional State Archives in Kongsberg opened in 1994, which makes it the youngest state archive in Norway.
