In December 1816 a wooden box with clothes, books and letters was found at Ørlandet outside Trondheim. From the letters one could tell that the box had been onboard the British ship “The Mercator” and belonged to two of the men on board, Mr John Lambeth and his son.

The Regional State Archives of Bergen marks this day with some digital retrospective glances at Bjerknes and the Geophysical Institute (Vervarslinga på Vestlandet) in Bergen. Read more...
On February 8, the Norwegian equivalent to UNESCO's Memory of the World, "Norges dokumentarv", was announced. The National Archives of Norway has 12 documents on the list, which is a register of irreplaceable cultural heritage. The documents cover a large time span and stretch from Olav Engelbrektsson's archive from the 1200s to the King's "no" from April 10 1940. Read more...
