May 16, 2012: The scanning and publishing of the bailiff's account books before 1695 are now started. The accounts for Østfold and Akershus county are published and more material for the rest of Norway will follow as soon as it is ready.
May 14, 2012: A new version of the 1865 Census is now published. The census has undergone quite some structural changes and a lot of corrections of the transcription. With this publication, the search box as well as the advanced search will return results from both 1865 and 1910 censuses. Use the source-designed search form for each of the censuses to search solely in one of the censuses.
The founder of the Bergen School (Bergensskolen) of Meteorology and the father of our modern weather forecasting, Vilhelm Bjerknes, was born 150 years ago 14. March 1862. The Regional State Archives of Bergen marks this day with some digital retrospective glances at Bjerknes and the Geophysical Institute (Vervarslinga på Vestlandet) in Bergen. Read more...
On February 8, the Norwegian equivalent to UNESCO's Memory of the World, "Norges dokumentarv", was announced. The National Archives of Norway has 12 documents on the list, which is a register of irreplaceable cultural heritage. The documents cover a large time span and stretch from Olav Engelbrektsson's archive from the 1200s to the King's "no" from April 10 1940. Read more...
